The aim of counselling is to give you the chance to speak about your problems with a trained and experience person.

People receive counselling for many different reasons, for example:

  • Abuse
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Depression
  • Difficulties in relationships
  • Isolation
  • Racism and discrimination
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Trauma

At other times, you might know or feel something is not right but you can’t explain what it is. Saheliya can help you explore these feelings and any other issues through counselling.

Counselling at Saheliya

Saheliya offers counselling and therapies in Edinburgh once a week lasting 50 minutes to one hour.

Depending on the issues and situations, people sometimes need more than 12 sessions while others may need only a few sessions. You can discuss the length of your counselling with your counsellor once you start. You would need to be available on the same day and time each week once you have agreed to start counselling.

Therapeutic counselling is provided in Arabic, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi and Urdu.

General Counselling

Your counsellor will listen to you carefully and try to understand your situation from your point of view.

Counselling is not about giving you advice or telling you what you should be doing. It is to explore your feelings and thoughts and reflect on what is happening in your life. It may help you to have a better understanding of yourself and your difficulties, and you are supported in making your own decisions.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy uses the creative process of making art to improve your physical, mental and emotional well-being. You can express yourself through art and it can help you develop and manage your behaviour, feelings, and stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness. You do not need to be talented or an artist to take part! Your art therapist will work with you and develop any underlying messages communicated through art.
