Volunteer Counsellor *(female)

Job Hours                Minimum 3 clients per week plus supervision

Saheliya is a specialist mental health and well-being support organisation for black,  minority ethnic, asylum seeker, refugee and migrant women and girls (12+) in the Edinburgh and Glasgow area. Our mission is to promote mental well-being by combating the effects of discrimination and abuse, reducing the stigma of mental health, and improving access to mainstream services.

Saheliya’s Counselling Service in Edinburgh is currently looking for 2 Volunteer Counsellors to provide individual counselling.

Requirements for Volunteer Counsellor:

  • Fully qualified (Completed Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent)
  • Previous counselling experience
  • Good understanding/experience of BME issues that women face
  • A second language e.g. Arabic, Hindi, Urdu or Punjabi would be desirable but not essential
  • Membership with BACP, UKCP or other relevant body
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum commitment: One year, 3 clients per week

We can offer you:

  • Fortnightly group supervision with an external clinical supervisor (held at Saheliya)
  • Management supervision with the Counselling Service Co-Ordinator
  • To be part of a small, friendly, supportive counselling team.
  • Experience and knowledge of counselling BME women.
